Session 3

We started this session with our party landing on Terika. They landed at the port city of Civ. They saw fishermen on the beach, working on various tasks, and noticed that they are all elven. A road can be seen leading from the beach up to the town, which is comprised of wooden buildings with thatch roofs. An elven man approached their ship, and shouted up for the captain. As he and the captain talked about cargo in halty common, he also mentioned that our heros needed permits to stay on the island, and to go to the third house on the road. As they walked up the road, they noticed the third house was whitewashed, and had blue trimming. The ornate wooden door had a sign proclaiming (in elven) that this is where permits are obtained. The party entered the building, and found a young-looking elven man, sitting at a desk in an ornate arm chair. Also, there were two chairs infront of the desk which looked comfortable.

The man then said, "Welcome! I assume you need permits?" He spoke heavily accented common, but it was easily distinguishable. The members of our party each obtained week long permits, for 1 copper apeace. The permit said : "(enter name here) has permission to stay in Civ for the duration of one week." it was signed and sealed and written in elven. The party then left the building and proceeded to the inn. The inn is the last building on the street, literally. It is in the middle of the street, right where the street ends. It is a two story building, made of planks, with a thatch roof. The windows have lush, purple draperies, and the door is ornately designed. Maldor Flind and Dent paid for their rooms for a week, 21 coppers, while the rest of the party paid for only one night, 3 coppers. Before eating dinner, they all went up to inspect their rooms. The rooms: There is hardwood floors. There is a beautiful rug in the middle, but it is obviously just died wool and not a more expensive fabric. The windows have lush purple drapes, and the walls are bare, except for a single picture on the left wall of the sea with gulls.  There is a dresser on the right hand wall, a bed on the left with a night stand next to it that holds a single oil lamp and a tinder box. The bed has four posts, the frame is made of what appears to be oak. So is the dresser and the nightstand. The bed is made up with fluffy pillows and thick blankets, with a lighter sheet under it for warm nights. The lock is stout, and can only be locked from the inside. The door is made from a hardwood, and is well cared for, so that it will not splinter easily should it be forced. Soon, a young elven woman told the party that dinner was served, and they all headed downstairs to eat. Another young elven maid, only about 19 or 20, with long blonde hair and blue eyes came to their table.

She says, "We are serving, um..., sheeps? Sheeps stew? Bread with cow..um.. butter, and cheese with um... sweet? sweet beef, no, sweetmeats for desert. All for 2 coppers each." She looks very pleased to have said the whole thing in common. When she said "each", she pointed to each of the party, to show that it is 2 coppers for each person's entire meal. Dent handed her a silver, Maldor Flind paid the 2 coppers, as did Cyrus. Her eyes went wide at the silver and she noded.

Maldor Flind complimented her, "Very nice common."

She smiled brightly. "I learning. Leiat teach me. She meal. umm... make?" then she looked at Dent. "I get, um... little money?" She indicated the silver, then the copper, "Little money?" she said again.

Cyrus replied in elven "You're doing well."

She squeals with delight, then replies <elven> "Leiat, the cook, has been teaching me. My parents died, and she is my mother now. She took me in, and she is teaching me how to work here. She is married to the innkeeper, and the barkeep is her son." She noticed the look from the barkeep, which was slightly reproving, yet loving, and said <common>"I get food now." Then she looks at Dent as he offers her another silver and looks confused. "More little money? Get little money for you?"

Dent told her, "No, you keep little money."

"For me?" She smiled brightly and giggled "Get you food and lots drink! No money!" She giggled again and rans back to the bar to tell her brother. She disappeared through the door behind the bar, and returned carrying a tray, laden with bowls and plates. She stoped at the bar to get drinks, then went to their table and served them.  "Good wine. No money. I thank you very much. Need more, ask for me. Name Kalya, like goddess." She smiled and skiped off to the next group of people. Only three tables were occupied, one by the ships crew.

Suddenly, there were screams outside, and people running past the windows twords the docks. From the door, they could see smoke rising from the docks. The party went running twords the docks. As they reached the docks, they saw all the ships have caught fire. The start appears to be their ship, a lantern is no longer on the mast as it was when they left it. People were throwing water quickly to try and keep the ships that are still functionable from burning completely. Their ship, and the ones on either side of it are engulfed. The other ships have small fires burning on their decks, beening seen to by the people on the beach. The party assists the other people putting out the fires. When the fires were extinguished, the people started work on removing the debrise, and the crews of the ships that were saved, but still burned, got busy on repairs.

Dent approached a group of official looking people and said, "Hello.  The ship I came on has been destroyed, in a week I will need another ship back."

He was answered by a man wearing a blue sash, obviously a badge of office. He said,"We shall find passage for you on trader's going out. Free of charge. Which was your ship?" Dent pointed to the now charred remains of the ship he came on. "Ah... were you crew?" the man asks.

"No, a passenger.  Was this fire an accident, or did someone start it?" Dent replied.

"A lantern was left burning on your ship. A wind knocked it off the mast, where it broke and ignited the ship. Oil flew onto the other ships, and ignited them also." The man replied. "We need to question the crew, although if that is the captain," he indicated the man (who was the captain) who was ranting and raving, obviously drunk, about loosing his ship. He was sitting on the sand of the beach near the water, where he obviously fell. "then I believe it was just a drunken mistake." He had the captain arrested so that he would not cause harm to someone or himself in his drunken stupor.

The party went back to the inn, finished their dinner, then retired to their rooms. Cyrus was told the story by Maldor Flind after they had retired.
